Setting family goals

There are two goals. Life goals vs. survival goals

Life goals are focused on progress. Progress in finance, health, education, and relations. In a family, the daily talk is about progress. Progress comes from contributions. Contribution leads to prosperity.

Survival goals are focused on comfort and self-centeredness. Consciously or unconsciously, our attention is on taking, not giving.

Let’s take an example.

Studies.

  • Survival thought: Are we only thinking about money? Are we thinking only that my child should get good marks? Survival goals are self-centric. The focus is on marks, not learning. If the marks are aligned with the expectations, then the family is happy; if not, it’s sad or not vibrant. The career is not decided, and so on.
  • Life goals thought: This comes with clarity in mind. There are many kids who drop math or biology because their minds are clear. The focus is clear. Education is seen as the basis for the creation of wealth for others too. Vision for life, purpose is clear.

What is your family’s energy?

A human life has four phases of development. Dharma (duty), Artha (earning), Kama (contribution), and Moksha (focus on the divine)

Dharma: Doing your duty.

As parents, are we doing our duty? Dive deeper: What is my real duty as a parent?

If you’re running a business or working, are you giving 100% to it?

As a student, are the kids doing their duty of studying and growing in knowledge, skills, and human values?

If a family has siblings, how are they communicating with each other?

If everyone in the family follows their dharma, the family will be happy. If the dharma goes down, the family will not be happy.

Dharma is directly connected to progress, learning ability, financial stability, social status, and personal and family health.

Artha: getting knowledge and finance

As a family, what are the family’s discussions on education?

Do we look at education as a means of earning or survival?

Education is meant to gain knowledge and serve others.

Now put on the thinking cap: is your family in sync in Artha, Kama, and Moksha?

Kama: simply means desire. We always desire success for ourselves. I want to be a millionaire. But why can’t everyone be a millionaire along with you? This shift in thinking is a must. The market has so much potential that everyone can be a millionaire. Yes, it is a possibility.

Moksha: We feel true freedom when we complete our task 100%. A student whose capacity is to score 90% is disappointed if they don’t achieve it. A student whose capacity is to score 45% and scores […]

Which stage are you in?

We all get trapped in a pattern depending on where we are in life.

As an individual or as a parent, if we are in survival mode (housing loan, tight finances, some illness), that is the pattern in which we will operate in the world. We react from that frame of mind.

When we don’t accept our phase of life, we get into comparisons. Our attention is more on what others are doing than what we must do.

Many of us do not acknowledge this phase of our internal struggle due to external circumstances. As a result, we only know the language of comparison.

We unconsciously design our lives as we see others do.

A classic example of people who are just not happy but still do “donkey work.”

To jump to the state where we want to be, we must be aware of our current state of mind, health, finances, awareness, and so on.

This gives life direction and purpose.

Life is a process

We listen and see at the same time. We cannot see first and hear later, we will not function efficiently.

Successful people get everything right.

While learning, if we are mentally distracted or emotionally disturbed, we cannot learn things or do our job.

In the mother’s womb, nature grows all the body parts of the baby together, step by step. Nature signifies perfection.

Gravity and other forces are in such perfect balance that our mighty mother earth can rotate and revolve.

If you pull one leg of the chair, all the legs come with it.

In the modern world, we just move from one concept to another. Instead, we need to learn to look at situations in a 360-degree manner.

For success, we have to understand and grow in all aspects as a human being. Only then will we lead a healthy, wealthy, and content life.

What are all these different aspects of life?

Health: Our body should be our best friend.

Wealth: food, patience, communication, togetherness, and success are various forms of wealth that one should acquire, not just money.

Relationship: with others and oneself

Professional Life: We must understand the purpose

Social life: keeps us aware, active, and responsible.

Spiritual Life: Before we die, we must know who we are and where we came from.

Life is a combination of all these aspects.
